Medsin Nottingham and Open Art Surgery
What is Medsin Nottingham?
Medsin (registered charity number 1111824) is a network of students who aim to promote health and act upon and educate people about health issues in both local and global communities. We organize and support many different projects and events in varying areas. Medsin Nottingham is the Nottingham University branch of Medsin-UK.
Projects and Campaigns:
Medsin Nottingham is currently supporting Stop AIDS, WaterAid, Marrow, Sexpression:UK, PharmAware, Malaria and Neglected Diseases Campaign, CPRiS, Crossing Borders, Open Art Surgery and others.
Full details can be found on our website: www.medsinnottingham.org.uk
Open Art Surgery
Open Art Surgery is a project which involves volunteer students going into the Queens Medical Centre paediatrics wards. The volunteers carry out art therapy sessions with the children in which they are given a chance to socialise with each other as well as express themselves through art.
It has proven particularly helpful for young teens in long term hospitalisation as they often feel bored and isolated. There are display areas in the hospital for art pieces created by the children involved. The project is currently vastly unfunded and Medsin Nottingham is hoping to raise £500 so that new materials can be purchased and the project can continue.
